WHAT IS

A DEEP PLANE

FACELIFT?

Dr. Peter Abramson is a facial plastic surgeon in Atlanta, Georgia who specializes in the deep plane facelift that addresses aging in the underlying layers of tissue along with the more superficial layers of skin on your face, smoothing & tightening for a more youthful glow.

This deep plane lift is an innovative approach to repositioning and tightening the deeper layers of muscle and tissue. The primary difference between a deep plane facelift and the SMAS facelift, which is the most common technique, is that the SMAS (superficial musculoaponeurotic system) layer remains attached to the skin during a deep plane facelift. Dr. Abramson releases the ligaments that anchor the muscle and connective tissue and lifts and repositions the skin and SMAS together.

With Dr. Abramson’s extensive training in this approach, a deep plane facelift can create impressive results that last for a decade or more. Still, a SMAS facelift is a very effective approach for many patients.

Traditional SMAS Facelift

Dr. Peter Abramson uses the deep plane facelift or rhytidectomy, which has been shown to be more effective at lifting the mid face and providing longer lasting results. Unlike traditional facelifts that lift only the skin, a deep plane lifts and repositions the SMAS (Superficial Musculoaponeurotic System), which is a deeper layer. These tissues are elevated all the way to the midline of the face to ensure the most profound lift possible. Dr. Abramson also creates a more defined jawline by tightening and contouring the upper neck. Dr. Peter Abramson is double board certified in Facial Plastic Surgery and in Head and Neck Surgery.

Are You A Good Candidate?

Women and men with significant jowls, deep nasolabial folds, and loose neck skin can benefit from a deep plane facelift. It’s important that the patient is in good overall health. Recovery can take a bit longer than what’s typically expected after a less aggressive facelift.

Corrects the following signs of aging:

  • Fine lines and wrinkles
  • Facial volume loss
  • Jowls
  • Double chin
  • Neck wrinkles and “crepe-like” skin

In addition to improving the appearance of the mid-face and lower face, a deep plane facelift sculpts a more contoured jawline and minimizes neck bands. The deep plane approach to a neck lift can produce more definitive and longer-lasting results than a traditional neck lift.

Less Bruising and Quicker Recovery

The techniques Dr. Abramson uses are designed to create a more comfortable experience for his deep plane facelift patients. Not only does he carefully reshape and tighten the face to restore a firmer, more heart-shaped face versus the older, square appearance, but the recovery is quicker than typical facelifts. Our facelift patients experience minimal bruising, a quicker recovery and are not required to wear drains after their procedure.
