Effective Treatment for Facial Redness and Broken Blood Vessels

Redness from rosacea, dilated blood vessels, sun damage, port wine stains, cherry angiomas and other vascular skin conditions on the face can be effectively treated with the Cutera Excel™ V pulsed dye laser, or PDL.  The Excel V is the only laser currently available that combines two wavelengths of light (532 nm and 1064 nm) for the broadest range of possible applications. It specializes in the correction of red, purple, blue, and brown lesions. Since different types of discoloration are best targeted with lasers of different wavelengths, the Excel V’s revolutionary incorporation of multiple wavelengths makes all the difference when it comes to results. It is especially effective on Rosacea, a common condition among middle-aged and older adults. Symptoms include flushing, persistent redness, and pimples. Broken veins, often called spider veins, are commonly visible around the nose and cheeks. The Excel V laser handpiece also treats other skin discolorations, including a variety of superficial pigmented spots and subcutaneous lesions as well as deep vascular and cutaneous lesions.

About Excel V Laser Treatment

During the treatment, a cool tip glides over the gel placed on the skin minimizing discomfort. Excel V uses a unique technology that allows for intense treatments without the pain of traditional laser systems. The Excel V laser energy penetrates the surface of the skin harmlessly to create changes within. It heats up and breaks down the concentrated pigment in brown spots. For vascular concerns that create redness or blue/purple hues, the pigment in the blood is safely heated until the capillary or vein collapses and seals shut. The body naturally filters away the treated pigment, leaving the skin clearer. The result is skin with a healthier, more even tone.

Most patients with rosacea or broken facial veins will require an average of 3 treatments to achieve the best results, although some conditions may be addressed with a single session. Redness and swelling after treatment generally lasts 1 to 2 days. While an improvement to skin is immediate, over time the redness and vessels may re-occur.  Should this happen, repeat treatments should be scheduled as needed.
