ANSWERS
What is Rhinoplasty?
Rhinoplasty, commonly known as nose reshaping surgery, or nose job has become increasingly popular among individuals seeking to enhance their facial aesthetics or improve functionality. It is a surgical procedure that alters the shape, size, or proportions of the nose. The procedure is tailored to fit each patient’s unique facial characteristics and personal goals.
Who is a Good Candidate for Rhinoplasty?
Ideal candidates are adults in good health and have realistic expectations about the surgical outcomes. The recommended age for rhinoplasty is typically around 15-16 years for females and 16-17 years for males, ensuring facial growth is mostly complete.
What Specific Changes Can I Make to My Nose?
Rhinoplasty is very customizable and can make a big difference to the overall look of your face. Here are some common changes patients seek:
- Dorsal hump reduction: Smoothing a bump on the bridge of the nose.
- Refine the tip of the nose: Correcting a bulbous tip nose is one of the top reasons patients seek a nose reshaping. Shape or size of the nasal tip (can be upturned, downturned, more defined, etc.).
- Narrowing the nostrils: Reducing the width of the nostrils.
- Overall size reduction or augmentation: Reshaping to be smaller or slightly larger.
- Straightening: Correcting a crooked nose.
Do You Have to Break My Nose?
What is the Recovery Process Like?
- Days 1-3 : Peak swelling along with congestion. You will feel more unconfortable but not in pain.
- Days 4-7: Still swollen, but improving. You will have bruising.
- End of week 1: Your splint will be removed and swolling slowly decreases.
- Weeks 2-4: You start looking more normal while swelling and bruising fade significatly.
- Months 1-3: Your nos takes shape. You can resume most daily life and light exercises.
How Old Do You Need be to Have Rhinoplasty?
Once your nose has finished growing, which is around 15-16 years old for girls and 16-18 years old for boys, it is generally approved. Teenagers under the age of 18 need parental consent for elective procedures. It is most important that the person is emothionaly ready and is doing the procedure for themselves rather than to please others. Dr. Abramson will do an emotional evaluation as well well as physical during the consultation.
It is common for teens to have nasal surgery, however there is no upper age limit as long as the individual is healthy.
What is the Difference Between Open and Closed Rhinoplasty?
The main difference between open and closed rhinoplasty lies in the incision placement, which determines how much visibility the surgeon has during the procedure. With open rhinoplasty the incision is made between the nostrils. The incision is small and hardly noticiable. With closed the incison is inside the nose.with no external scars.
